Dear University of Utah faculty and students, I am writing to you in regard to our annual review of serials held at the Library. Your participation in the review would be appreciated. The Marriott Library is a partner with you in the creation of knowledge on this campus. Your changing interests and desire for efficiency mean we should buy new subscriptions and pay for more online access, but the library is committed to being more than just a purchasing agent for worthy products. Just as faculty are exploring new ways to do research and share the results, we must invest in projects which offer new models for gathering and disseminating scholarly and creative work. As the budget is not keeping pace with inflation, we can only afford these new materials, access, and projects if we cancel some existing subscriptions. This year we plan to trim $150,000 to counterbalance price increases and to fund new investments. We will review the titles below which are generally those whose use is low or undocumented. Please review the lists and let us know if you see titles which you are likely to need in your future research and teaching. Send your comments to journals@library.utah.edu by June 4, 2006.
