SYNOPOSIS OF 2003-2004 BUDGET PLAN

The library met the budget cut by staff and operational changes and by trimming the acquisitions budget.
The acquisitions budget cut was slightly less deep than we originally thought it would be. There was not a conventional journals cancellation. We had a cushion of $24,000 bought forward from the previous year's serials cut. Therefore we needed to save $35,000.

Projects:
- "Flipping " We moved further toward taking only the online version of a journal if it appeared to be no more expensive and had reliable present and future access. Examples: MUSE, MIT, JSTOR.
- Databases. Marriott started re-examining these, starting with indexes whose content is now duplicated elsewhere, e.g. Agricola.
- Reference sources. We continued to examine paper indexes and reference sources.
- Miscellaneous cuts. A few subscriptions not affiliated with any specific academic department seemed to be expendable. Examples: newspapers, low use popular magazines, newly discovered duplicates with Quinney and Eccles.
