Gifts to the Library
The Library accepts gifts of books of any kind, including popular paperbacks,
and also music, maps, and A-V materials. Gifts are searched against the library's
holdings and those that are needed or used are added to
the collection. The others are sent to the library's booksale, and since
the proceeds from the sale are used for new purchases, the library benefits
no matter how the gift is used.
All gifts are tax deductible, but the library is not allowed to give a statement
of value because the IRS considers it an interested party. If a name and address
are included, the library will acknowledge that a donation has been made, but
donors should keep a record of how many items are given so they can estimate
a value, just as is done, for instance, with a donation to the Salvation Army
or Deseret Industries.
Small gifts should be either brought directly to Gifts (in the Storage Building) or
sent through the campus mail. For larger gifts, please call Gifts at (801) 581-7526.
Marriott Library Booksales
The library has a ongoing booksale located in the Archives Building at 666 Guardsman's Way. Books in the sale are duplicate gifts,
books in areas that are not kept by the library, and books withdrawn from the
collection. Sale books can be purchased from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday. The booksale shelves are restocked
once a week.
