Every year the library reviews part of the collection to make sure its choices are still prudent. The resulting cancellations offset the rise in journal prices which has averaged about 9% annnually for the last decade - much more than the increase in the University's budget. Cancellations also make it possible for us to buy the new titles which faculty request and to upgrade to the online format most readers prefer.
The journals, reference series, microforms, and databases being reviewed were posted for public comment between March and June 2006. Virtually all faculty requests to continue a title were honored unless they involved duplicate content. We cancelled 199 titles which cost $153,488.
