Project Scope: A Library for the 21st Century

New Program Areas

Knowledge Commons : A technology-intensive center staffed with traditional and technical library professionals and designed for collaborative use.

Electronic Education Center: Eight high-tech classrooms of varying styles will make up this area on the first floor.

Automated Retrieval Center (ARC) : A high-density unit that will house materials and robotically retrieve items in minutes.

Small Group Studies : For collaborative student use in groups of up to eight, or for private study.

Grand Reading Room : Made possible by a generous grant from the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation, this will be a quiet, traditional study room with a modern flair.

Garden Terrace: The Garden Terrace will offer spectacular views to the west from the roof of the Automated Storage Center.

Special Collections Reading and Research Room : The gateway to the world of Special Collections, this room will offer a comfortable space where patrons can immerse themselves in the materials. The Annie Clark Tanner Western Americana Collection will be just a few paces away.

Advanced Technology Studio: A center dedicated to assisting students and faculty with applying advanced digital technology to their research and teaching.

Cyber Café : Destined to be THE central gathering spot on campus, the Cyber Café will be a place for students to come for refreshment, to meet, and to plug in laptops.
