Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the Utah Artists Project?
A: You can read a description of the project on our “About Us“ page.

Q: Who is running this project?
A: The Utah Artists Project is run by the Dumke Fine Arts Library in the Marriott Library at the University of Utah.

Q: What information is available on the Utah Artists Project site?
A: For each artist there is a “Biography“ page featuring a photograph of the artist; an “Archive“ page that has access to archived images and documents related to the artist; a “Suggested Reading“ page listing books, magazines, and newspaper articles with information about the artist; an “Ephemera“ page listing ephemeral resources about the artist; and an “Artwork“ page that can be used to access images of the artist's work.

Q: The artist I'm interested in doesn't have any information available on one or more of the above listed pages. Why?
A: Because of the size of the project and our reliance on contributions from artists and others, some information for certain artists has not yet been obtained.

Q: How do I find information about a particular artist?
A: Simply find that artist by searching through our alphabetic index page or our medium index page--both accessible from our homepage.

Q: How do I view an artist's artwork?
A: Once you've reached the artist's biography page, you can access their other pages (“Artwork,“ “Suggested Reading, “Ephemera,“ or “Index“) by clicking on the appropriate tab located along the top of the page. From the “Artwork“ page, click on “Browse all artwork“ to view the artist's work that is available in the database.

Q: Do all of the artists listed have artwork available to view on your site?
A: No. Only the artists with a frame icon ( ) next to their name on the index pages have viewable artwork.

Q: I am listed on the Utah Artists Project. Can I submit information about myself and images of my artwork?
A: Yes. To find out how, call (801) 581-8104 of email uap@library.utah.edu
You can also check our “Contribute to UAP“ page.

Q: How were artists chosen for the Utah Artists Project?
A: The initial list of artists is drawn from lists compiled by the Springville Museum of Art, Bountiful Davis Art Center, Robert Olpin's telecourse Art Life of Utah, the Utah Arts Council, the Salt Lake County Fine Arts Program, and art faculty from the major universities and colleges in the state.

Q: I am a Utah artist but am not listed on the Utah Artists Project. How can I get my information and artwork posted on your site?
A: Currently, we are only including artists from the lists compiled by the Springville Museum of Art, Bountiful Davis Art Center, Robert Olpin's telecourse Art Life of Utah, the Utah Arts Council, the Salt Lake County Fine Arts Program, and art faculty from the major universities and colleges in the state. Any artist additions must be approved by our board of directors--a process which may take some time. If you feel strongly that you should be included, please contact us.
