NOTE ON ELECTRONIC JOURNALS:
Marriott Library provides campus-wide electronic access to a large number of chemistry journals, including most publications of AIP, APS, and IOP. Electronic editions may be accessed by links from Marriott's catalog (UNIS) and/or list of electronic journals. Subscriptions paid for by Eccles are not included in Marriott's catalog or e-journals list though access is usually campus-wide; if the journal has medical applications and Marriott does not subscribe, be sure to check the Eccles electronic journals list as well.

JSTOR General Science Collection: unlike most electronic editions, which are available only for the last few years, JSTOR archives major journals from their earliest issues up to a "moving wall" (usually 2-5 years before the present). JSTOR presently includes full text of Science; Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences; Proceedings of the Royal Society of London; and Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London from 1960 to the moving wall, and will be adding earlier issues in the near future.

PRIMARY ARTICLE INDEXES FOR PHYSICS:

INSPEC (AXIOM) (1969+; updated weekly) INSPEC help guide
Our most comprehensive index for Physics. International coverage of physics, electronics and computer science information from thousands of source publications including journals, conference papers and technical reports. Provides links to full text articles from AIP, APS, IOP and a few other publishers' journals. Allows users to save citations in formats for bibliographic software such as Endnote, Reference Manager, etc.
Print edition: Science Abstracts (later, Series A Physics Abstracts), 1898-1999; Science Reference, Q1 .S3 (cancelled in 1999 to partially fund INSPEC access)

IEEE ELECTRONIC LIBRARY(1988-present; updates vary for each area)
IEEE has made available full text access to IEEE’s transactions, magazines and journals, in addition to conference proceedings.

SCIENCE CITATION INDEX (1980-present; updated quarterly) SCI help guide
Indexes 3500 "high quality" journals in all areas of science; citations only (no abstracts). Provides "cited reference" searching, allowing users to follow research forward in time. (Print SCI back to 1955: Science Reference, Q1.A1Z S365)
License: 5 simultaneous users; campus-wide; requires Citrix client.

ADDITIONAL USEFUL INDEXES

LANL Preprint Server
Posts pre-publication "e-prints" of physics papers. Free website from Los Alamos National Laboratory.

PUBSCIENCE (not explicitly stated, but some coverage back to 1970's)
Abstracts from peer-reviewed journal literature in the physical sciences and energy-related fields, compiled by the DOE Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI). Citation coverage appears highly variable by publisher; for some journals, citations are given only for articles related to DOE research. Some full-text links, depending on arrangements with publishers and Marriott subscriptions to e-editions. Free government website.

USPTO PATENT DATABASE (1976-present, updated weekly)
Index and full text of U.S. patents. Free government website.
Graphics may only be viewed in image files, which requires a Tiff G4 plug-in (links to sites for free download are provided).
